Muhammad Farouk has a strong background of Research, Analysis and Development in media and communication. He holds MBA degree from Hamdard University. Currently he is working as Consultant Media and Communication , earlier  He served as Project Coordinator for International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) for November2008 to July 2010 on IFJ Media and Democracy project to establish and run PFUJ Secretariat Islamabad. as  communication & coordination consultant, he provided services as Training Coordinator for Humanitarian Information Project (HIP) of Internews Network Islamabad designed for radio Pakistan staffers and also for ALPH Consultancy and Advocacy Islamabad. His professional experience ranges from corporate to Research, Analysis to development and now in Project Management. He enjoys unique distinguish to have professional exposure with parliamentarians, military brass and media magnates. Before joining IFJ-PFUJ as Project Coordinator, he gained expertise in major areas i.e. Research, Analysis and Development. His previous organizations are Internews Network Pakistan, Intermedia, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Beyond the Horizons (BTH), Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights (PCHR) and Petrosin Gas. Being a Research Analyst on Security, Media and Democracy , he is regular article contributor in leading national English dailies. Recently he attended two weeks workshop “Training Course on “Social Services for All for Human Resource Development in SAARC Region: Priorities and Programs” organised by SAARC Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC) Islamabad Pakistan. In Nov2011, He attended 3 days Training Course on “Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Response Managment”  organised by Save the Children.

1.In Nov 08, he was appointed Project Coordinator by International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) to establish and run PFUJ Secretariat Islamabad. His prime responsibilities include,

Tasks at PFUJ Secretariat

  • Liaise with the IFJ and PFUJ office holders
  • Establish and run the PFUJ Secretariat in Islamabad
  • Conduct of training workshops and other activities { Recently Two workshops were conducted on Union Leadership in Lahore & Karachi}
  • Supervise an Administrator / Media Rights Monitor
  • Management of budget, Financial matters and progress reports
  • Support establishment of a regional officer
  • Arange/Participate training workshops and other activities
  • Prepare and organize publication of documents {In-House Journal 2008 also avaialbe on www.pfuj.info}

2.In 2006-2008 he served in Internews Network Pakistan and    Intermedia, two top media development organizations of Pakistan. His work in Media Resource Centre (MRC) was mostly in two major areas on Media Research and Media Development. He has been writing Monthly State of Media Reports since May2007, while had been preparing regular daily media monitor reports since Sep 2006. He had conducted number of Training Workshops for media persons on different topics. On eve general elections 2008 in Pakistan, he carried out a giant project on “Training Workshops on Election Reporting” for nine major and important districts of Southern Punjab. He trained almost 700 journalists of the belt on “election reporting” a joint project by Intermedia and Asia Foundation. These Nine Districts include Okara, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Vehari, Multan, Muffergarh, D G Khan, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahwalpur. At Internews Network Pakistan and Intermedia his major duties were:

  • Coordination for implementation of all communication activities including the design, production and dissemination of communication materials

  • Contributor for National English Dailies on Media, Security, Democracy
  • Media Monitor and Monthly Report writing on media issues
  • Liaise with International, National and Regional media / Organizations for development assignments

3.In 2005, he served as Media Analyst for Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), he was part of the team that established President of Pakistan’s official website www.presidentofpakistan.gov.pk . In ISPR, his major duties were:

 4.In 2003-04 he worked at Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights (PCHR) as Research Officer and Media Coordinator. He established media cell for PCHR. During his a year long stay at PCHR, he conducted various workshops and seminars. Some of them are mentioned below.

  • March 2004, Coordinator for Workshop on Jail reforms by Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights (PCHR).

  • September 2004, Coordinator for Workshop on Rights of Senior Citizens by Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights (PCHR).

1n 2004, he also worked as assistant manager for business development for Beyond the Horizon a media house for a brief period.

He started his professional career as Trainee for Petrosin a company working in oil and gas sector.

He holds Master in Business Administration degree from Hamdard University Karachi [Institute of Leadership & Management] with focus in Marketing, Management, Business Research. He did a Short Course on Media Management & Public Relations from National University of Science and Technology Rawalpindi. Earlier he earned a Bachelor in Sciences degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics from Bahauddin Zakariya University. He likes sports channel for his favorit sports Hockey, Cricket, Football. He played Hockey at College and District level. He also likes farming in his ancestral village.
