Expectations always initiate the minutes of SAARC conferences but conclusion never draws even a headline in powerful media of the day in sub continent. This is the fate of regional body for over the years that it has become a hostage organization to the bilateral disputes of nuclear capable India and Pakistan. Induction to China and Afghanistanis orientation of security, subject to SAARC which can be a potential but more than a threat as regional hegemony will be the goal of new game backed by some key international players. Regional partnership may lead to a new phase of regional cold war era in whichIndiaandChinawill be keen contenders while other smaller states will again be confused, fruitless and at a loss, they will finally see towards other regional blocks to ensure some gains to survive but regional body SAARC will not deliver even to expectations.

Realistic Deactivation of SAARC

India and Pakistan are the toughest founding components of SAARC and regrettably mutually neighboring rows never cemented any significant success for regional cooperation body in spite of deep rooted potentials to grow on socio-economic fronts. The scale of bilateral disputes between two nuclear capable countries is major hurdle in flourishing the role, although scope of regional cooperation is being expanded by giving representation to some new neighbouring states of various capacities. SAARC head of states conference always held with expectations but concludes without any positive outcome. Now terrible stage has reached that powerful media from sub continent mostly have no importance for such regional congregation in which sideline meeting of indo Pak premiers are the permanent feature for a smiling photo sessions. Both the countries are robustly bounded by high level of mistrust. So far, the fate of SAARC can be defined as the hostage to India and Pakistan for their multi prong disputes depleting regional cooperation organization to an inactive club of states without any prosperous delivery to strengthening body for regional uplift. In near future; there is no sigma of change of status quo for SAARC.

Politics is other name of possibilities and potentials. Friends of the day can become opponents while foes can be the best friends. Is it beauty or cruelty that nothing is permanent, scenario changes so quickly that all is unpredictable? It is complex to determine either it is game to gain power to service or lust to endorse slavery. Rule may be tyrannical or democratic, but history is the best judge for delivery to masses.Democracy is the best available system to form a government that ensures maximum participation of people in decision making at different levels as it implements unanimous practices to wok out good governance. Norms demands that decisions should be taken in best national interest with majority participation. Democratization of society doesn’t mean that values are being upheld as most often, democracy becomes a soft dictatorial form in which rulers become dummies and impose verdicts which negate genuine public aspirations and national interests. But it is magnificence of the democracy that if its practices are implemented in true sense, system itself work as catalyst to apprehend challenges.

After President Musharraf’s exit, the US has plenty of worries about the security challenges in Pakistan and the region. Internal instability, militancy and safety of nukes are the key areas where the Bush administration has frequently expressed concerns as also are the dreadful issues to regional peace and posing threats to international scenario. In the current political variations, the US has shown restraint from involvement in the internal politics of Pakistan. The State Department spokesman said, “Our policy is stay out of Pakistan’s internal affairs. We have said that over and over again.” But recent reshuffles in power corridors have emerged with some new tests for Pakistan and US. It is first time that matters will be dealt with political leadership. Previously, the US was easy to settle matters with military heads of state but that experience has not paid well during the tenure of General (Retd) Pervaiz Musharraf. Society always waits for truth and facts coming from the media but very few comprehend the level of sensitivity and threats to life that are involved in reporting for the search of authenticity. Sometimes media persons pay the price in the shape of their life while covering incidents for accurate and rational details. Pay tribute to journalists as they never believe in fear and try to find information of horrible clashes among warrior factions of conflicts from the war zones. Coverage from dangerous and unsafe areas is most risky and uncertain but thanks to media, they never show hesitance and provide news bravely. In the war against terror, they are also equal soldiers fighting with pen to identify culprits of terror targeting the common man, but alas they have also become the victims while no one cares for them, even the government does not realise its duty to provide protection to help expose real reasons of terrorism.
